Recent news about performances and upcoming concerts

+Just played (May 21, 2017) jazz with the pianist John Fresk at Vovo Telo at Olympus Village in Pretoria East. We played as a duo. It’s been awhile since I’ve played jazz. It feels great to out there doing it again. John Fresk is a great player, originally from Portland, Oregon but living in Pretoria now.

+Upcoming concerts with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brooklyn Theater will be Friday 9 June 19:00 & Sunday 11 June 15:00

La gazza ladra Overture (The Thieving Magpie) Rossini
Les nuits d’Ete (song cycle) Berlioz
Piano Concerto no. 1 in E minor Chopin

+I recently performed the Mozart Requiem with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brooklyn Theater. It was really great to actually sit in the orchestra and play this work. The piece is written for trombones and trumpets, no French Horns. But the GPO could not contract a trombonist for this performance so they asked me to transpose the part and play. It was really a lot of fun with a fine orchestra, chorus, and solo vocalists. It was truly a great performance, very inspiring and moving, to say the least.

+I had the pleasure of performing with Bruce Cassidy and the Anti-Gravity Machine at the Bassline in Johannesburg on November 19, 2016. This was really a great show of Bruce’s original compositions and arrangements. The band was superb as well.

+And I performed the annual Christmas concert with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brooklyn Theatre. Eddie Clayton served as conductor and arranger for many of the songs for the show. As well, Willem Vogel contributed some fine arrangements as well. The orchestra and singers performed expertly to packed audiences.
